Ronde

Monthly retrospective

Once a month, step back as a team: what worked, what to fix and what to try, with a board, votes and actions that have an owner.

  • Every month, 60 min
  • 3 min to speak, each

Free. Your first meeting starts from this template, and everything stays editable.

Who it’s for

Agile teams, and any group that wants to improve the way it works together: a management team, a project crew, a school team.

Why this format

  • Everyone writes firstCards are written in silence before anyone speaks, so the first idea doesn't steer all the others.
  • Votes set the prioritiesCards are grouped and voted on: the team discusses what matters most to it, not what the loudest voice raised.
  • Improvements stickEach decision becomes an action with an owner, reviewed at the next retrospective.

What everyone prepares

Before the meeting, each person fills in their check-in in a few minutes, from a computer or a phone. Here is one, as it looks in Ronde.

What went well

  • Releases every Thursday, all month
  • Pairing on support tickets

What to improve

  • Specs arrive too late before the sprint
  • Too many meetings on Mondays

Ideas to try

  • Try a meeting-free Wednesday morning
  • Take turns writing the release notes

How a session runs

  1. IntroEveryone joins, in the room or on the call: the screen shows who is here and what is on the agenda.
  2. Retrospective boardCards written in silence, grouped, voted on, then the most-voted ones discussed.
  3. Open topicsThe subjects raised along the way, with the decisions taken and the follow-up actions.
  4. Wrap-upThe minutes are ready: decisions, actions and their owners, everyone’s check-in.

Ready with this template

Each meeting turns modules on or off as it likes; these come switched on.

  • Team moodEveryone shares their mood (⛈️ to ☀️), shown anonymously and tracked in the stats.
  • Meeting usefulnessAt the wrap-up, everyone rates how useful the meeting was, from 1 to 5, anonymously; the average is tracked in the stats.
  • Reactions and signalsEmoji reactions and signals (too long, louder…) flying across every screen.
  • Raised hands and questionsRaise a hand or ask a question during a turn: a questions step follows that turn.
  • KudosThank a teammate during the meeting; kudos show on every screen and in the minutes.
  • TimeboxA topic of its own on the agenda, with its own duration and its notes in the minutes.
  • Decision logEvery “Decision:” line of the notes, from every session, in one searchable list open to the whole team.
  • RetrospectiveAnonymous sticky notes in columns, grouped by the host, voted on by the team, then discussed; add it to the agenda.

Tips to run it well

  • Start with the team mood: it tells you how much energy there is before you dig into problems.
  • Discuss the three most-voted groups only; the others can wait for next month.
